Myanmar/Burma Relief

A devastating cyclone has hit Myanmar/Burma which has brought a high death toll and much suffering to the survivors.  The American Baptist response is reported...(click here).

International Ministries is also answering the call and you can get their update at  www.internationalministries.org
American Baptists have had a long history with the Baptist Convention of Myanmar which gives us a way to get relief directly through our partners to our Baptist churches in Myanmar and the Burmese people in desperate need.

Your church is invited to receive an offering and send it directly to Valley Forge so it will get immediately to the people in need for relief and rebuilding of lives, churches & homes.   The funds will be given through the One Great Hour of Sharing Fund.
Individuals & churches can give online at: http://www.abc-oghs.org/give or checks can be made out to OGHS and sent to:Lisa Rothenberger, World Relief Office, P.O. Box 851, Valley Forge, PA 19482. Please be sure to include a note or write on the check – Myanmar Relief

The Annual Meeting of the American Baptist Churches of Los Angeles and the American Baptist Congregations of the Southwest and Hawaii was held at First Baptist Church of Pasadena on May 2 & 3. More than 400 people attended during the two days. First Baptist Church of Maywood hosted the Latino Celebration where Dr. Samuel S. Chetti preached to nearly 450 persons.

COMMENTS FROM A FEW WHO ATTENDED:

What an exciting conference experience!  As we met in the sanctuary of an old historic "First Church" oozing the glory of ministry and experiences past, we were led in worship by a vibrant, young, multi-cultural group of musicians and speakers challenging us into fresh new paths and experiences with God and His ever-changing people.  The re-commissioning of the Shawvers to work in Mexico was the dessert to the feast of fellowship.
Gloria and John Marshall, Bakersfield, CA

The Saturday morning session included a commissioning of long time friends, Chuck and Ramona Shawver, who will be returning to the mission field as our American Baptist missionaries serving in Mexico. Keep them in your prayers and check back to our site for updates from them.

This 102nd annual meeting of the American Baptist Churches of LA and the First Annual Meeting of the American Baptist Congregations of the Southwest and Hawaii was exceptional. The location, speakers, the food and fellowship were excellent. The DVD announcing the ABCUSA Biennial in 2009 captured our diversity of believers and this should be shared with the rest of the world. One of the key things that I liked about the Saturday session was the recognition and prayer for our youth...Rev. Larry Ginn, Long Beach, CA

Informative, encouraging, and full of fellowship.
God is up to something with ABCLA and ABCOSH!
